Cataract Surgery
Services

Cataracts are a leading cause of vision impairment in people over age 55 (and sometimes younger). In fact, cataracts are a normal consequence of aging. When cataracts progress to the point of causing visual difficulties with daily tasks, cataract surgery can restore vision and even reduce the dependence on glasses or contact lenses. We work with the finest cataract surgeons that provide the latest technology, including laser-assisted cataract surgery, advanced technology intraocular lenses, and simplified post-operative care. As your primary eye care provider, we will work alongside you to find the best solution for your vision and lifestyle needs.

Myopia Management
Services

Myopia (nearsightedness) is a growing problem – both literally and figuratively. More than just causing blurry distance vision, myopia is a degenerative disease that causes the eye to grow too long. This lengthening of the eye significantly increases the risk of retinal detachment, glaucoma, macular disease, and cataracts. Myopia is also a worldwide epidemic with more children becoming nearsighted than ever before. Projections forecast that fully half of the world’s population will be myopic by 2050. Fortunately, we can significantly slow the progression of myopia that occurs during childhood, therefore greatly reducing the risk of sight-threatening complications later in life. We believe in a proactive approach to myopia management, and our practice offers comprehensive programs designed to keep children seeing their best and healthy over the long term.

Comprehensive Eye Exam
Services

Preventative eye exams are a vital part of overall health care. Many diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, stroke, and multiple sclerosis may be discovered during an eye examination. In addition, eye diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration often have no symptoms in their early stages. Vision issues can affect learning and performance at work and sports. Comprehensive annual eye exams allow early diagnosis and treatment of these and many other conditions and lead to an improved quality of life.

Contact Lens, Exams & Fitting
Services

Your doctor will help you to find the method of vision correction that is right for you and your lifestyle, whether with glasses or contact lenses.

Eye Emergencies
Services

We believe in taking care of our patients at all times – including eye emergencies. If your eye is injured or you have an urgent need, call our office immediately and our 24-hour answering service will assist you. Our doctors are on call to see patients after hours for conditions such as sudden loss of vision, flashes, and floaters, painful red eye, foreign body or other eye injuries, including chemical exposure.

Dry Eye Treatment
Services

Our tears play important roles in keeping the surface of the eye healthy and comfortable as well as helping us see clearly. When our tears are not working as they should, usually due to changes in their composition, our eyes can become irritated, inflamed, and vision may fluctuate. This is often called Dry Eye Syndrome (DES), even though in most cases, the eyes are not actually dry. DES is a progressive condition that can cause a lot of eye discomfort and lead to more problems with allergies and eye infections. Fortunately, we have many new and innovative ways to treat and manage this common disease. Our doctors will prescribe treatments based on your specific signs and symptoms while focusing on improving your quality of life and long-term eye health. Many patients see significant improvements from painless in-office procedures that improve the health and function of our tear-producing glands.

Eye Allergies
Services

If a patient is suffering from red, itchy, or watery eyes, along with sneezing and a runny nose, there is a good chance he or she has eye allergies. Dr. McBride and Dr. Blanks can help patients find relief from their itchy and watery eyes, especially if he or she wears contacts. After diagnosing a patient with eye allergies, we will often prescribe special eye drops or change the type of contact lens that is prescribed, as certain varieties of contact lenses are more susceptible to accumulating allergens.

Pediatric Eye Exams
Services

Eye exams for children are crucial for ensuring a child’s eyes are healthy. Vision problems can often interfere with school performance and even impact a child’s safety. According to the National Institute of Health, about 35% of American preschoolers have nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. Along with treating nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, pediatric eye exams can also help diagnose and treat a number of eye disorders. The most common vision problems in young children include lazy eye, misalignment of eyes, color blindness, depth perception disorders, and anterior eyelid health.

LASIK Evaluation and Consultation
Services

LASIK is a common laser eye surgery used to treat refractive errors, such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. Most patients benefit from LASIK as a lasting replacement for eyeglasses or contact lenses. Before undergoing LASIK surgery, patients will need to attend a consultation to determine if they are a candidate for LASIK. During this consultation, we will look at the patient’s eye health to determine the best vision correction option for their needs and how much corneal tissue will need to be removed and reshaped. Patients who do not qualify for LASIK might qualify for another laser eye surgery, like PRK or LASEK.

Ortho-K
Services

Orthokeratology (ortho-k) is a way of correcting vision problems, such as nearsightedness, using custom-designed corneal molds that are worn only while sleeping. Similar to the way braces straighten crooked teeth, orthokeratology gently and comfortably reshapes the front of the eye to improve unaided vision. Unlike LASIK, which reshapes the cornea by permanently removing tissue, ortho-k works non-invasively and is fully reversible. Also known as Corneal Refractive Therapy and Vision Shaping Treatment, ortho-k has a decades-long history of safety and is fully FDA-approved for all ages. In addition to improving vision for school, work and sports, ortho-k can slow the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in children by more than 55 percent on average.
